The Chief of Portuguese Army Staff Visits the NATO base in Betera.
The Portuguese Army Chief of Staff, General Carlos Antonio Corbal Hernandez Jeronimo, visited the facilities of the Spanish NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Headquarters (HQ NRDC-ESP) located in Betera on the 25th of February.
Portugal is one of the founding countries of HQ NRDC-ESP and it keeps, since its creation in 2002, a good number of representatives within the International Staff, what includes the position of Deputy Commander of HQ NRDC-ESP, which is currently assigned to Major General Tiago Vasconcelos. Besides, Portugal maintains a whole Brigade affiliated to the Headquarter for training in exercises.
NRDC ESP Commander, Spanish Lieutenant General Rafael Comas Abad, informed General Jeronimo about how demanding is the challenge this HQ faces after the decision adopted in the Alliance Ministries of Defense meeting held past February the 5th, where this HQ was designated to prepare, certify and lead the “spearhead” of NATO Response Force for 2016 (VJTF 16)
General Jeronimo was also update about the new operational capabilities this HQ has endorsed since its certification as the first Deployable Joint Task Force Headquarters in NATO in last June.
