The Army Staff

 

The Army Staff (EME) is the main ancillary body under the command of the Chief of the Army Staff (JEME), whom it assists in the exercise of their powers and in the responsibilities assigned to them, providing the necessary expertise to substantiate their decisions, translate them into orders and ensure their compliance.

The Army Staff is composed of:

 

a) Headquarters.

b) Secretary of Army Staff.

c) Defence Plans Division.

d) Operations Division.

e) Logistics Division.

 

The Cabinet of the Chief of the Army Staff

 

The Cabinet of the Chief of the Army Staff is the immediate support body of the Chief of the Army Staff, responsible for the study, assessment and processing of the matters which fall within the remit of the latter as a military authority figure, in their institutional relations, social communications and others which have not been attributed to other organisms at the Headquarters.

 

The Headquarters of Information Systems, Telecommunications and Technical Assistance

 

The Headquarters of Information Systems, Telecommunications and Technical Assistance (JCISAT) is the body responsible for the direction, coordination, administration and control in the field of information and telecommunications, electronic warfare and cyber defence, statistics, military operations research, sociology, publications and free distribution mapping. Functionally, it reports to the department’s governing departments on the basis of the subject matter.

 

The JCISAT is composed of:

 

a) Headquarters.

b) Sub-directorate of Information Systems and Telecommunications.

c) Sub-directorate of Activities in Cyberspace and Electromagnetic.

 

The Institute of Military History and Culture (IHCM)

 

The Institute of Military History and Culture (IHCM) is responsible for the protection, conservation, cataloguing, research and dissemination of the Army’s historical, cultural, document, museographical and bibliographic heritage.

The IHCM is composed of:

 

a) Headquarters

b) Sub-directorate of Historical Studies

c) Sub-directorate of Historical and Cultural Heritage

d) The Army Museum

e) Military History and Culture Centres

f) General Military Archives

The Legal Counsel of the Army

 

The Legal Counsel of the Army is the advisory and consultative body, solely in legal matters, to the Chief of the Army Staff and the other bodies he or she indicates. Organisationally, it will report to the Chief of the Army Staff and functionally it will report to the Spanish Department of Defence (DoD) General Legal Council.
