The HQ NRDC-ESP brings together NATO’s senior land commanders at the Land Corps Commanders’ Conference (LC3)
On 22 and 23 April, the Headquarters NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Spain (HQ NRDC-ESP) hosted the 29th Land Corps Commanders’ Conference (LC3), a high-level NATO forum that brings together the Alliance’s senior land commanders.
The conference, led by Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) based in Izmir (Turkey), was hosted by HQ NRDC-ESP based in Bétera (Valencia), highlighting Spain’s commitment as a framework nation to the Alliance.
The first session, held on 22 April at the Santo Domingo barracks (Valencia), enabled the participating commanders to address key issues for the future of land warfare, such as developments in command and control (C2), the strategic environment, and progress in the areas of readiness, interoperability and deterrence on NATO’s eastern flank.
On 23 April, activities continued at the NRDC-ESP headquarters in Bétera (Valencia), where specific sessions were held to explore in greater depth operational and coordination issues between the various allied commands.
As part of the programme, participants visited the Viator Training Area (Almería), where the Tactical Experimentation Campaign is being conducted, organised by the Army’s Future Force Centre in collaboration with the Legion’s 2nd ‘Alfonso XIII’ Brigade. Attendees were able to witness a demonstration of state-of-the-art capabilities, including unmanned aerial systems (UAS), unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), counter-UAS capabilities and advanced command and control solutions at command posts. This activity provided a first-hand insight into advances in innovation, systems integration and the transformation of land warfare.
The LC3 serves as a key forum for aligning strategies, sharing experiences and strengthening cohesion among NATO’s land commanders. Its hosting in Spain reinforces the role of HQ NRDC-ESP within the Alliance’s force structure and underlines Spain’s firm commitment to collective defence, operational readiness and security on the eastern flank.
