The NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Spain Headquarters commemorates the 70th anniversary of NATO in Bétera.
The NATO Rapid Deployable Headquarters has celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Atlantic Alliance with a military parade held in Bétera, the home of the NRDC-ESP. Over 300 troops witnessed the event which saw all eleven nations serving with the Spain-led NATO headquarters on parade under the NATO’s flag.
This event commemorates the 70th anniversary of the creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization that has its origins in the signing of the Washington Treaty in 1949. Since its creation, the Alliance has demonstrated its unity, cohesion and adaptation to the geostrategic and security environment in continuous change, being nowadays as vital to global security as ever.
A statement was read during the parade, where it was highlighted the increase of NATO members from 12 to 29 in 70 years and the principles of democracy, sovereignty and collective defense the Alliance is based on, demonstrating its success and relevance in the international arena.
The ceremony was chaired by Lieutenant General Francisco José Gan Pampols, Commander of the HQ NRDC-ESP, and was attended by several local and regional civil and military authorities.
After the parade, invited guests attended a reception to celebrate NATO’s bithday. At it, Lieutenant General Gan adressed the attendance and said that “the transatlantic alliance is made up today of 29 nations that share freedom, democracy, human rights and rule of law as their enduring principles and values”.
“An alliance based upon the unity, solidarity and cohesion of its member nations, that has evolved and adapted to the geostrategic changes, seeking to anticipate to potential threats with flexibility”.
The NRDC-ESP is a clear example of the commitment, unity and adaptation to the new challenges that NATO demands. Since its certification in 2002 it has proved to be a responsive, efficient and fully-functional HQ. And that has been possible thanks to the outstanding work done by every member of this Headquarters.
