BOABDIL

Marta: What sumptuous things! They look very old, too. Who could they have belonged to?

David: It says here that they belonged to Boabdil the Younger. That is what Christians called the last sultan of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada, at the end of the Middle Ages. Can you tell me which pieces they are?

Marta: It looks like his clothes, his shoes and his weapons.

David: The garment is called a marlota and it used to be worn with other warm clothes over it. Next to it are his babuchas, which is a kind of slipper, and weapons: a sword and a rapier. All the pieces are made of very rich materials like silk or ivory.

Marta: I bet we could learn a lot from them.

David: Through them we can learn about the different kingdoms there used to be in Spain and the different cultures that have shaped it throughout history, like the Arab and Jewish cultures. We can also learn about how people dressed in the past, and much more!
