Marta: Have you seen this? It's a suit of armour for a knight, and also for his horse!
David: Yes, armour has been used since ancient times for protection in wars. But during the Middle Ages and early Modern Age, nobles and knights also wore suits of armour to parade through towns on special occasions and to take part in the games and sports of the time, tournaments and jousts.
Marta: Is this suit of armour one of those?
David: Yes, it belonged to a nobleman called Per Afán de Ribera, Duke of Alcalá de los Gazules, who used it over 450 years ago when he took part in jousts.
Marta: Why does the horse's armour have horns?
David: I think the part that covers the head, which is called the testera, has the horns of another animal to impress or frighten the opponent in tournaments.
