Portuguese Major General Boga Ribeiro takes over as deputy command of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - Spain Headquarters in Bétera.
Major General Joao Pedro Boga de Oliveira Ribeiro has been appointed deputy command of the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps - Spain Headquarters (HQ NRDC-ESP), a position held by Portugal, following the end of his predecessor, General Viegas, tour of duty, in a simple ceremony at the Bétera military base (Valencia).
The parade was chaired by Lieutenant General Fernando García-Vaquero Pradal - Commander of the HQ NRDC-ESP, and carried out respecting protective measures against COVID. Representatives of the twelve allied nations present at the HQ NRDC-ESP participated in the event.
During the ceremony, Lieutenant General García-Vaquero welcomed General Boga and his family to Valencia, and highlighted his great military career, underlining that General Boga's experience in several assignments - such as the War School of the Portuguese army, the command of the Mechanized Brigade affiliated to the Bétera Barracks, and as Commander of the European Union Mission in Mali - will be of great help to the Headquarters both in its certification as Headquarters of a Land Corps in high intensity combat operations (Warfighting Corps) in NATO exercise Steadfast Leda 2021 in November, and also during the 2022 stand-by period.
The parade was composed of an Honor’s Company made up of personnel from the HQ Support Battalion, the Military Police Battalion, a Sapper Squad and the Military Music Unit.
