Squaring the circle
Have you ever wondered why a certain unit is deployed at a specific time and to a specific location? Far from being a random or casual decision, the reason behind this designation is the result of a complex fitting together of pieces, which has to allow a response to all the commitments that the units of the Army have at both the internal and international level. Bearing in mind that these commitments include foreign operations - as part of NATO, the United Nations and the European Union -, participating in multinational structures, supporting civilian authorities and the permanent national contingency plans which require them to keep forces available for surveillance and presence tasks.

"VALIANT LYNX". The most of the year
The "Valiant Lynx" exercise was the Spanish Army's main commitment to NATO in 2018 and its largest exercise of the year. Its purpose has been to verify that the Spanish Army is prepared to face a high intensity military operation, applying NATO procedures in the planning, direction and execution of the same. This is very important, as standardised systems and procedures allow all members countries to quickly integrate into Alliance's command structures to take part in multinational operations. To achieve this desired readiness and interoperability, command and control structures must be prepared from the highest to the lowest level as a vertical assessment.

8x8, the wait is over
The Spanish Army's aspiration of having a modern vehicle, which replaces the veteran Wheeled Armoured Personnel Carrier (BMR in Spanish) and which also becomes the key vehicle of the modern Brigades, comes from long time ago. However, the desfavorable economic situation left the project cancelled. The recovery after the crisis has allowed an attempt of restarting the project, and it already has fixed dates, a budget of 92 million of Euros and a recipient: "La Unión Temporal de Empresas" formed by Indra, General Dynamics European Land Systems-Santa Bárbara Sistemas and SAPA operations. At the end of 2015 it was signed the contract for the start of the first step (the design and development phase), which will finish next November with the arrival of five technological demonstrators.
