The ‘ATILA’ system arrives at the NATO CBRN Defense group

The Engineering Department of the Army´s Logistics Support Command (JIMALE, in Spanish) has presented the ‘ATILA’ (Autonomous Ultraviolet Light Antivirus) system to NATO´s Joint Chemical Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense Capability Development Group (JCBRN-CDG). On October 22, Lieutenant Coronal Onrubia and Captain Álvarez attended as representatives of the JIMALE Platforms and Special Equipment Engineering section.

The presentation was scheduled to take place at an in-person meeting in Prague planned for October 20th through the 22nd. In the end, a virtual format was chosen for the meeting due to COVID-19 restrictions. It was followed by the 75 participants from 24 NATO-member nations who are part of the JCBRN-CDG group.

The ‘ATILA’ system integrates the germicidal capability of UV-light emitted by an implement with robots used by the Army for remote explosive deactivation. Designed and made by JIMALE and the Engineering Equipment Maintenance Park and Center, this project was completed in record time in order to support the ‘Balmis’ mission in its fight against coronavirus, allowing the disinfection of various facilities.
