TEMPORARY EXHIBITION: "Paintings that Wage Battles. P. Ramón y Cajal Collection".
From 05/10/2017 to 07/01/2018. Every week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
Author Jacques Courtois, 17th century, battle scene with artillery
The Army Museum shows to the public, from October 6, the collection of 45 paintings of battle scenes, donated to the Spanish State by Pedro Ramón y Cajal Agüeros.
Traditionally, the genre of battles is not so frequent in the history of painting, compared to others, such as still lifes or still lifes, portraits or landscapes. However, it illustrates very well the narration of war events, real or imaginary, and above all allows us to visualize a large number of styles and authors or schools, which throughout history have been able to stage the great heroic moments, individual or group, combats that have remained in the retina of their authors, with all the semantic and symbolic load that those scenes of this splendid collection imply.
