BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA. 18 YEARS OF MISSION

From 19/10/2011 to 14/12/2011. Every day

BLUE HELMET PATROL

Commissioner: His Excellency General Mr. Antonio Izquierdo García

The exhibition has resources from the Army Museum itself, from different UCOs of the Army related to the Mission and even from individuals or particular groups that give a vision of the opposing forces: clothing, weapons, emblems, maps, and of the intervention forces and their different missions: equipment, weapons, badges, vehicles, and scripts and flags of the groups. A Checkpoint and a Control Post are also recreated outside the Museum, exemplifying some of the tasks carried out. Special mention should be made of the collaboration of the IMPERIAL SERVICES group, made up of an important group of collectors of military objects, who have contributed funds for the exhibition, and will carry out, in support of it, the development of "living history" or "Living History" conferences.

The exhibition is structured in six thematic blocks that describe the situation and actions of the Spanish Army during the 18 years of presence in this mission accomplished. The exhibition conveys the characteristics and circumstances that have surrounded the performance of this transcendent Mission for 18 years and under various international mandates in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a republic nestled in the circumstances of dismemberment and the resurgence of new countries of the former Yugoslavia, which gave rise to political, ethnic and religious confrontations in the region and which led to a war conflict from 1992 to 1995.

The intention of the exhibition is to show everything from the geographical and historical characteristics of the former Yugoslavia, to the particular situation that originated the UN mandate that caused the international presence in the country, and under what form and command structure the Spanish presence was integrated. The exhibition also wants to convey a feeling of recognition to the work carried out by all the members of the Pacification Mission, especially the Army.
