The Army Museum presents a temporary exhibition to remember and pay tribute to an era (eighteenth and nineteenth centuries), in which science and the military come together to promote the scientific and industrial development of Spain. The exhibition has an essentially didactic and informative basis aimed at a general, non-specialist public, whose main message is to disseminate this military contribution to the scientific and industrial development of the nation at that time.
Military collections, not always available to the viewer, are repositories of an important heritage: historical, scientific, technical and artistic. The objects that compose them constitute in themselves a kind of secret museum, which has been intended to be brought to light in the form of a temporary exhibition.
The exhibition reminds us of the old cabinets of curiosities. It is in the proliferation of these cabinets and the collection of all kinds of objects considered strange, rare or spectacular, where the birth of future museums of natural history, anthropology or fine arts has its origin. But they also favor the development of science, in particular that of chemistry, which will replace alchemy. This activity is once again fashionable by the great collectors of the nineteenth century, who recover the taste for collecting objects of all kinds, in order to use them as a symbol of their social situation. And the military establishment is no stranger to any of these activities.
Exotica in Militaria is articulated in two exhibition levels that complement each other to achieve the objective pursued by the exhibition.
