Gunners and sappers from the 6th Extremadura and the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force from the United States Marine Corps carried out inter-force tactical exercises during the manoeuvres organised by the II/16 ‘Las Navas’ Protected Infantry Battalion in the Manoeuvre and Shooting Range in Bótoa (Badajoz) from the 17th to the 21st of June.

The US marines, from the Morón de la Frontera base in Seville, were integrated as another unit in the offensive and defensive actions and support programmes. They were principally focused on training for generalised combat and combat in urbanised areas.

As the exercises continued, they used the capacities and skills of both the gunners and the sappers. Some of the most important groups employed during the exercises included the crews of the armoured personnel carriers, with heavy 12.70mm machine guns; anti-tank defence squads with Spyke missiles; precision shooters with 12.70mm Barret guns; and the squad with 120mm heavy mortars mounted on armoured personnel carriers.

They also participated in exercises with live ammunition in the 300 metre shooting range, topographical tours, counter-IED (Improvised Explosive Device) training and vehicle night patrols.
