ICOMAM Conference 2021

15-19 November 2021

Toledo, Spain

‘The military historical legacy; mirror of the past, reflections for the future’

Being aware of the role that museums have acquired in the development of today's society through their decisive openness to the public, exchange and culturalenrichment in an increasingly interconnected and globalized world, which gives them a great capacity to extend their Conception far beyond their physical reality, military museums are a privileged scenario to be protagonists in this new era.

The military legacy places us before history, composed in turn of other stories in which, on a large number of occasions, the protagonists are common and, at the same time, each with their own perspective. By the very nature of these stories, this military heritage has the possibility of fulfilling a social mission through a new integrating dimension: how to make current the material culture of the past so that it reaches the man of the present, who challenges him and speaks to him of all and contribute something that is useful to know or improve our present and future

Conference Óutline

Conference Name:ICOMAM TOLEDO 2021.

15 – 19 November 2021.

Museo del Ejército (Army Museum)

Union Street s/n

45001 Toledo,Spain.

+34 925 238 800; fax: +34 925 238 915

Conference Theme: The military historical legacy; mirror of the past, reflection for the future.

In line with the previous ICOM KYOTO 2019 topic (Museums as Cultural Hubs: The future of tradition) which dealt with the role of Museums contribution to societies in political, economic and social changes taking place around the world, vital for building a peaceful and sustainable future, the subject of the ICOMAM TOLEDO 2021 Conference wants to highlight the importance of Army Museum as a repository of the military legacy and a reference from the past to prepare for the (near) future.

Military Museums, in today's most globalized and intercultural society, are characterized by their openness to a diverse audience that seeks new knowledge and sensations that allow their development and personal enrichment. In this context of new approaches between museum and public, military museums constitute privileged entities that allow us to know not only the past but also reflect on the future by becoming centres of meeting and communication.

Throughout this conference we will discuss the different aspects that derive from the role of military museums as repositories of the military legacy in which to look at the past and serve as a basis for preparing our future. In this perspective we intend to develop the contributions of the speakers through the four panels that will be developed during the conference.

We hope that all ICOMAM TOLEDO 2021 participants will actively engage in the subject through papers and discussions with a shared vision for the role of military museums in their role as a bridge between our historical legacy and our common future.

In the context of the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, every traveller who wishes to enter Spain must take into account that, in addition to complying with the general entry requirements in Spain, exceptional measures restricting mobility are currently in force in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.

As a result, all travellers, regardless of the circumstances of their trip, are strongly recommended to keep informed before their trip about the restrictions adopted by the Ministry of the Interior on border crossing (interior.gob.es), as well as the sanitary measures adopted by the Ministry of Health (mscbs.gob.es).

To get further official information about restrictions to foreigners arriving Spain, please visit Minister of Foreign Affairs web page :

http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Portal/en/ServiciosAlCiudadano/InformacionParaExtranjeros/Paginas/RequisitosDeEntrada.aspx

After you have finished your crossing border control process, and once you have already entered in Spain, the sanitary measures in force, at the present moment, are as follows:

• It is compulsory to wear face mask at any time.

• You have to keep social distancing at any time.

• The capacity and timetable in different premises (restaurants, bars, churches, public sites, etc.) are either reduced or limited in order to avoid the spread of COVID.

If during your stay in Spain, there would be any modifications with regard to sanitary measures, you will be fully updated by organization staff.
