Headquarters NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Spain (HQ NRDC-ESP), at the forefront in the use of the Classified Mission Network on the Eastern flank of the Alliance
NATO's military presence in the eastern part of the Alliance is a key element of its enhanced deterrence and defence posture, which has been improved in recent years to reflect the new security reality in the Euro-Atlantic area. The forward presence of allied forces is defensive, proportionate, transparent and in line with the Alliance's international commitments and obligations. It represents an important commitment on the part of the Allies and is a tangible reminder that an attack on one NATO ally is an attack on all.
In order to carry out the tasks required by this military presence of the Spanish Army, it is necessary to have a Command and Control System (C2) that allows information flows to be maintained between the different headquarters and their units, both Spanish and multinational, that form part of the deployment.
At the NATO level, Exercise Steadfast Cobalt (STCO), under the leadership of the NATO CIS Group (NCISG), ensures the integrity and interoperability of the Communications and Information Systems (CIS) that make up C2.
The NATO Rapid Deplovable Corps Headquarters Spain (HQ NRDC-ESP), based in Bétera (Valencia), with the support of the Spanish Signal Brigade (MATRANS), has designed, configured and deployed the classified network MS WFC NRDC-ESP, as the main Command and Control system for the Army units deployed on the Eastern Flank.
In addition to providing service to Spanish units, the MS WFC network provides Command and Control capability to units of other nations, such as the Multinational Division Center (MND-C), based in Székesfehérvár (Hungary), which is part of the structure led by HQ NRDC-ESP on the Eastern Flank. Collaboration with the units that make up this structure is not only limited to the deployment of assets, but also includes advice and mentoring for nations in the process of integrating their own CIS assets into NATO networks.
This type of action requires fully trained, equipped and prepared Armed Forces with highly technical capabilities that allow them to deploy with our allies in an interoperable manner.
Spain's commitment to the protection of Europe's eastern flank is a testament to its dedication to its allies, and serves as a prime example of its determined contribution to the Alliance's efforts to ensure the integrity of allied territory and prevent conflict through credible defence and deterrence measures.
