A new intelligence tool will be put to the test during Trident Juncture

The High Readiness Force Land Headquarters (HRF(L) HQ) made available to NATO as Rapid Deployment Headquarters is trying a new management and operations tool of joint intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (JISR) systems known as SAPIIEM which will be assessed during the Trident Juncture exercise.

The project has been promoted by the Directorate General of Armament and Equipment and developed by the company GMV. Its purpose is to provide unit chiefs with sound knowledge of the situation and improve their decision making capabilities.

SAPIIEM was first tested during the United Vision and EXCIVIR exercises, executed in Norway and Spain respectively. Last April members of the HRF(L) HQ International General Staff completed an introductory two-week course to learn how to operate it. In May, tests were carried out to test its technical specifications and level of interoperability with established information and telecommunication systems within the framework of the Steadfast Cobalt exercise, which took place in Poland.

A second course for system operators has been scheduled for September at the “Jaime I” base in Bétera (Valencia). In addition, SAPIIEM will be used in the autumn during the Trident Juncture exercise. The goal is to test it for use by the 2016 Allied Response Force, whose land component will be under the command of HRF(L) HQ.
