    CREATION

    It was created as an embarked Unit in the city of Cartagena, on February 27th, 1566, and its first commander was Lope de Figueroa, from whom it receives its name.Regimental Command Building 

    HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

    As a garrison in Portugal in 1664, it received the name of Provincial Tercio of Córdoba. In 1704, according to the Ordinance of September 28th, it was reduced to Regimental foot, losing its naval connection and being added to the Army, receiving the name of 1st “BAJELES”.It continued with this name until, in 1931, the Infantry Regiments 2nd "Reina" and 10th "Córdoba" were merged (Decree No. 14 of June 6th), forming in Granada the 2nd Infantry Regiment, the new unit continuing the History of both, until in 1943 (Decree D.O. No. 1 of December 21st), it recovered the name of Infantry Regiment of Córdoba, remaining in Granada.In 1985, on the occasion of the creation of the 21st BRIMZ, it took the name of 10th Mechanized Infantry Regiment "Córdoba", a name that it still maintains.

    MAIN COMBAT ACTIONS

    It played a heroic role in the Battle of Lepanto (1571), where its commander, with part of the Tercio, fought in the Royal Galley of Don John of Austria. After this battle, Miguel de Cervantes was one of his men until 1575.It was part of the army that occupied Portugal, and it fought in the Americas, France, Italy, Portugal, Africa, Cuba and in the campaigns that took place in Spain such as the War of the Spanish Succession; the Peninsular War; the First and Second Carlist Wars; the Hispano-Moroccan War; as well as in the Campaigns of Morocco and the Spanish Civil War. It was part of the army that occupied Portugal, distinguishing itself in the naval combat of Terceras (1581) and the conquest of Angra (1583). It took part in actions in America, France, Italy, Portugal, Africa, Cuba, and fought in campaigns in Spain such as the War of the Spanish Succession (Almansa 1707, Alcoy and Denia in 1708 and Villaviciosa in 1709), the Peninsular War (Trafalgar 1805, Bailen 1808) and the First and Second Carlist Wars (Huesa, Muro, Mendigorría, Lacumberri, Villarreal, Vitoria and Villarrobledo). In the Hispano-Moroccan War (1859-1860), it participated in the battles of Castillejos, Tetouan and Wad-Ras. As well as in the Campaigns of Morocco (1913-1915) and the Spanish Civil War.In 1994 the colonel in command of the Regiment commanded Task Force Córdoba in the UMPROFOR Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina.In 1998, the BIMZ III/10 served as the basis for the constitution of the "Baena" Tactical Group, a member of the 7th SPABRI "CORDOBA", acting as Stabilization Forces (SFOR) in the former Yugoslavia between April and August, in the Móstar area. In 2005, it participated in Kosovo as part of the 14th KSPAGT (Command of the Group and Companies of the Infantry Base Unit).

    REWARDS AND DISTINCTIONS 

    1836. The 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 10th Infantry Regiment "Córdoba", were decorated with the Order of San Fernando, for the action in Villarrobledo, which took place on September 20th, during the First Carlist War.
