On February 10th, the light section of Sappers, or Combat Engineers, from the Army´s 1st Sapper Battalion was near the Ampirú ski resort parking lot in Cerler (Huesca) when they received an alert that a car had swerved off the road and was stuck on an adjacent slope. At the time, the section was planning to practice snow anchor construction at the resort as part of the winter mountain technical training in progress at the nearby military refuge.
On arrival at the scene, they immediately checked that no one had been injured. Once they verified that the car’s occupants, a man with his two children, were not injured, the section offered to tow the car, which was stuck. Using the winches on the VAMTAC ST-5 vehicles and their skill in handling hoists and power equipment, the sappers recovered the vehicle after various maneuvers. Once they also verified that the vehicle could be driven, the car was returned to the road and the family continued on their journey.

It was a task different than planned, but Army units are always in a position to serve the needs of citizens.
