On February 13, the 11th Brigade “Extremadura” completed the first part of the second decontamination training session for Civil Protection volunteers. The goal of these sessions is to instruct personnel in the preventative disinfection methods and procedures necessary to fight COVID-19.
A total of 60 volunteers are participating in these second training sessions that are being done in the facilities at the “General Menacho” base (Bótoa, Badajoz), where there are 30 participants from the region, and in Navalmoral de la Mata (Cárceres), where the remaining personnel will be trained on February 20th. These participants add to the 62 volunteers who already received training in the first sessions that were held at the end of last year.
Some of the topics covered in the training include types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and materials, preparation of solutions, waste management, assembly and disassembly of the equipment, and the disinfection of rooms and passageways along the decontamination route.
The training is run by specialized NBC (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense) personnel from the 11th Brigade, who have carried out the disinfection of 150 residences in Extremadura since the beginning of the state of alarm in March 2020.
