Wednesday, September 2, 2020

Number: 8080

The personnel of the “Extremadura” XI Brigade, which is scheduled to be deployed in Mali at the end of the year, completed its training period for the operation on the 28th of August at the Sancha Brava barracks (Badajoz). The manoeuvrers have been supported by reconnaissance and explosive disposal teams, the remotely piloted Raven air system, the SORIA vehicle transmission station and a tactical subgroup of the Tercio Navy Marine Infantry which will also be deployed in the African country.

This exercise has tested everything learnt since the beginning of the preparation phase in April and has sought to improve procedures in order to provide the protection force of the EUTM Mal XVII contingent. Instruction and training activities in reconnaissance, patrol, against ambushes, medical evacuations, checkpoints, zone security checks and responses to Insider actions aimed at detecting infiltrators have been conducted to achieve this goal.

Following the completion of this exercise, the contingent will commence the final training period in which the entire contingent, with all its capabilities, will participate in the concentration phase, provisionally set for October.

All activities have been executed respecting the preventative measures implemented in order to prevent COVID-19. These measures have lead to difficulties in certain aspects of the training, which, thanks to the professionalism of all the contingent personnel, have been successfully overcome..
