End of mission to deliver materiel to Besmayah

More vehicles – RG-31 and Lince – and ammunition, several isothermal containers, three forklifts, two pieces of engineering equipment, a crane and an armoured truck have increased the logistical and operational capability of the “Gran Capitán” base at Besmayah (Iraq).

With the arrival of this materiel in mid-May, the group GAPRO of the 11th Logistics Support Group (AALOG) has concluded its mission on behalf of the Spanish contingent in the country.

The mission began at the beginning of February with the deployment of two Endpoint Units (which organise the work at the unloading point in the theatre of operations): One at Rasheed military airport, at the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Centre; another at one of Kuwait’s ports. The supplies and vehicles required by the Spanish personnel at Besmayah were forwarded from these two points.

The mission lasted more than three months. Over that period, GAPRO has showed its ability to work with civilian and military actors of different nationalities. The lessons learnt will no doubt be useful in the future.
