A Disinterested Gesture that Merits Congratulations

The Vizcaya Blood Donors Association has congratulated, by means of a letter addressed to the Chief of the Army Staff, Army General Fulgencio Coll, the personnel posted to Base ‘Soyeche’ –headquarters of 45th Mixed Infantry Regiment ‘Garellano’ - in Munguía (Vizcaya), for their magnificent response to  the blood donation day that took place in this unit.

In all, 162 donations were obtained, which according to the president of the Association, Mr. Álvaro Larrea, is a ‘very considerable number and one of the most numerous donations’ carried out in the entire Basque Country.  In fact, the blood extracted on that day, 3rd May, exceeded by 30% the total daily donations in that autonomous region.  There were also 52 new donors.

The president attributes this success, not only to the ´magnificent willingness’ of all the servicepersons posted there, but also to the ‘excellent preparation’ that the base commanders undertook previously, in which several talks promoting blood donations were organised to raise awareness of the importance of this simple, disinterested gesture.

The motive of the letter, which was sent to Army Headquarters on 18th May, is the request for the Chief of the Army Staff to convey these congratulations and gratitude to his subordinates, who are described as ‘excellent servicepersons and exemplary citizens’.
