The members of the 30th Spanish Force in Afghanistan were bid farewell, on 5th January, on Base ‘Álvarez de Sotomayor’ in Viator (Almería), in view of  their imminent departure for the Asian country where they will begin a new mission in the coming days.

The ceremony was presided over by the commander of the Land Force, Lieutenant General José I. Medina, before whom in formation were  nearly one thousand servicepersons who make up the force, the bulk of which is contributed by 3rd Legion Regiment ‘Don Juan de Austria’.

Joining them in addition to the members of the Legion Brigade are personnel from the 1st Intelligence Regiment, the 5th Transport Helicopter Battalion, the Civil Guard and the Navy Brigade, among others.

Their cohesion and preparation to assume the missions that they are assigned once deployed, aimed at the reconstruction of Afghanistan, were certified in the exercise undertaken in mid December.  With this farewell ceremony six months of intensive preparation have been brought to a close and the countdown to departure has begun.
