Military Music Inundates Toledo and Ceuta

Miguel Renuncio/Madrid

The Alcázar’s Charles V parade ground in Toledo was the venue on 12th May for a concert by the Infantry Academy Military Band.  This unit, conducted by Captain Celio Crespo, was accompanied by the “Sol de Otoño” and “Filarmónica Hermética” choirs, as well as by the soldiers’ choir from the Academy’s own Support and Services Headquarters.  The concert was attended by over 700 people, headed by the mayor of Toledo, Mr. Emiliano García-Page.

The repretoire was made up of pieces making reference to three very distinct causes: firstly, the end of Spanish military presence in Bosnia-Herzegovina; secondly, Armed forces Day (with works related with the Army, Navy, Air Force and Civil Guard) and, thirdly, the tenth anniversary of the suspension of Obligatory Military Service.  This concert is the first in a cycle which aims to initiate a new cultural activity at the Army Museum.

Concert in Ceuta

On that same day, the Ceuta General Command Military Band, conducted by Lieutenant Manuel Bernal, offered a concert in the “Siete Colinas” Secondary School auditorium in the autonomous city, within the commemorative events for the 3rd centenary of the creation of the Engineer Arm.  To be precise, this concert served to pay tribute to the 7th Engineer Regiment, located in Ceuta. Lieutenant Bernal had composed the Royal Sapper-Mine Regiment / 7th Engineer Regiment march for the occasion.
