The Legion Museum in Ceuta Now Displays a Plaque in Memory of Captain Muñoz Castellanos

The deceased's widow unveils the commemorative plaqueThe first Spanish serviceman killed on a peacekeeping mission, Captain Arturo Muñoz Castellanos, received a special tribute on 26th March in Ceuta. The plaque with his name that had been found in the “Plaza de España” square in Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegovina) has been repatriated to our country and placed on the principal façade of the Specific Legion Museum.  The captain’s widow, Ms. Rosa María López, was in charge of unveiling the plaque, in the company of the commander of the Ceuta General Command, General Vidal de Loño, while surrounded by relatives and fellow soldiers of her late husband, who lost his life in 1993 as a result of the wounds caused by a grenade explosion.

The plaque commemorates the "first Spanish death for peace"Following the ceremony, a “Legionnaire Saturday” military formation was held on Base "García Aldave". Participating in this were the units that make up the 2nd Legion Regiment "Duque de Alba". The formation was presided over by the unit commander, Colonel García-Vaquero.The ceremony was attended by civilian and military authorities in Ceuta
