Bailén Dedicates a Monolith to 10th Mechanised Infantry Brigade "Guzmán el Bueno"

The Land Force commander and the mayor unveil the monolith The municipality of Bailén (Jaén) has strengthened its bonds a little more with 10th Mechanised Infantry Brigade “Guzmán el Bueno", by erecting a Monolith dedicated to the unit to coincide with the 25th anniversary of its creation.

The unveiling ceremony was held on 6th March in “Príncipes de Asturias” Square, beside the Battle of Bailén Performance Centre.  The event was attended by the city’s mayor, Mr. Bartolomé Serrano, the speakers of the municipal political groups and representatives of the three associations promoting the initiative to erect the Monolith.  On behalf of the Army, the presence of the Land Force commander, Lieutenant General Virginio Sañudo and the interim commander of the 10th Mechanised Infantry Brigade, Colonel Fco. Javier Sánchez was outstanding.

Colonel Sánchez addresses the public The Monolith has been made by craftsmen from the city with the use of materials from the region.  It carries the coat of arms of Bailén and that of the Brigade, along with the inscription:  “From the people of Bailén to the 10th Mechanised Infantry Brigade “Guzmán el Bueno”.  March 2011". The unit has traditionally collaborated with the City Hall in the annual commemoration of the battle of Bailén (19th July), in which personnel from the 2nd Mechanised Infantry Regiment "La Reina" and the 10th Regiment "Córdoba" alternate their participation.
