On the 28th of May at the Army Headquarters, the Spanish Army Chief of Staff, Francisco J. Varela Salas, presided over the presentation of the project "Eñe", promoted by the association "The Legacy", which seeks to promote the legacy left by the Spanish in the United States.

The initiative was developed with the projection of three videos and the presentation of a map related to the book entitled "George Washington and Spain, The Spanish legacy in the United States of America."

The president of “The Legacy”, Eva García, gave the Chief Executive Officer a framed map and thanked him for the Army's collaboration in the “Eñe” project. The army general, for his part, has promised to contribute to its dissemination through the units. All those who are interested in acquiring the map may do so through the association's website, at a modest price of five euros.

"It is necessary to preserve, spread and transmit our heritage to future generations," said the Chief Executive Officer. In point of fact, the videos use a format that can be attractive to young people in order to arouse their interest. The first video recreates a meeting between King Carlos III of Spain and the first President of the United States, George Washington; the second serves as a presentation to the historical map; and the third highlights the Spanish contribution to Florida with the construction of the Castillo de San Marcos in the city of St. Agustin.

"The Legacy" celebrates its 5th anniversary. During this time, it has promoted numerous initiatives and has several publications that try to publicise the Spanish legacy and contribution in the United States. The Spanish Army has participated in a good part of these projects with which knowledge of a part of the sometimes unknown history of Spain is promoted.
