The Army participates in the closing ceremony of the XXXVI Cycle of the Conference of American Armies in Mexico City

The SEJEME headed the Spanish delegation

From November 10th to 14th, the closing session of the XXXVI Cycle of the Conference of American Armies (Conferencia de Ejércitos Americanos, CEA) was held in the Mexican capital, with the participation of delegations from the armies of 17 countries, as well as the Inter-American Defense Board.

Created in 1960, the CEA functions as an international forum for the exchange of experiences among the armies of the American continent. Spain has participated since 2017 as a “Special Observer Army,” with the right to speak but not to vote.

The Spanish delegation was headed by the Second Chief of Staff of the Army (SEJEME), Lieutenant General Alejandro Escámez. Spain maintained a constant presence throughout all the activities of the cycle, including the organization by the Army of a Specialized Conference in Madrid in February, which brought together numerous international delegations.

During the various plenary sessions, the conclusions and recommendations derived from the specialized conferences, exercises, and research efforts carried out throughout the cycle were presented. In addition, the SEJEME had the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with representatives from the armies of Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, and Paraguay, as well as with the Inter-American Defense Board, which helped strengthen cooperative ties and reinforce military collaboration between the Army and the armies of these countries.

During the Conference, the transfer of responsibility took place between the Army of Mexico and the Army of Paraguay, which will lead the CEA in the next biennial cycle, 2026–27.
