The Spanish contingent in Lebanon received the visit of Mr. Pedro Morenés -the acting Defense Minister of Spain- on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Spain´s participation in the UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon).
General Alfredo Pérez de Aguado –the contingent´s chief– welcomed the Minister at the “Miguel de Cervantes” base in Marjayoun where he was escorted by the admiral Teodoro López –Operations´ Command Chief–. General Pérez de Aguado informed the Defense Minister about the evolution of operations, especially about the incident that took place on Sept. 14th when a Lince vehicle trod on a mine that exploded without negative consequences for the crew.
After a remembrance ceremony for the ‘10 years of Spain in Lebanon’ the minister, Pedro Morenés met with the Irish General, Michael Beary. To end, the minister met with Spanish military personnel to whom he thanked for ‘their daily work, dedication, and sacrifice in honor of Spain and the safety of everyone.’

Before visiting the military contingent in Marjayoun, the Defense Minister of Spain met with his Lebanese counterpart, Samir Mokbel –UNIFIL Chief– who stated to be ‘extremely satisfied’ with Spain´s contribution to the UNIFIL. He also added that ‘Spain is an absolutely needed force to keep stability and peace in Lebanon’. On his part, Mr. Morenés, reasserted the commitment of Spain to this mission. He said: ‘We will continue here until the task becomes established and stable.’
