The Army has signed, today at ‘Buenavista’ Palace in Madrid, a collaboration agreement with the ‘Complutense’ University at Madrid, by which students from the Media Studies Faculty (under-graduate and post-graduate) will carry out internships at Army instillations as well as other research, training and educational activities so that the Faculty’s students can get to know the Institution.

The Chief of the Army Staff and the vice-chancellor of Institutional Relations and International Relations, Dr. Juan Ferrera, as well as the head of the Office of the Chief of the Army Staff, General Del Pozo, and the dean of the Faculty, Dr. María del Carmen Pérez de Armiñán, have carried out the signing of the agreement and its annexes respectively in a simple ceremony.  Accompanying Army General Coll have also been the secretary general of the General Army Staff, General Valentín-Gamazo, and the chief of the Army Department of Communication, Colonel Conde de Arjona, among other military representatives.  On behalf of the ‘Complutense ‘ University also attending were the director of the Journalism II Department, (the co-ordinator of these internships), Dr. Carmen Salgado, and the doctor in Media Studies, Mr. Donaciano Bartolomé, along with other academic personnel.

This agreement, which is in force for two years (renewable), is within the framework of broader collaboration between the ‘Complutense’ University and the Ministry of Defence, as vice-chancellor Ferrera has explained.  The academician has underlined the importance of the steps made today between both institutions, ‘because the communication media are the ones that give substance to our society and our students’ being able to acquire specific training on Defence themes within the Army is very fortunate’.  Likewise, the vice-chancellor has shown his desire that this agreement ‘may be able to deepen and that, in the future, we may continue to organise other forms of collaboration’.

In turn, the Chief of the Army Staff has stressed the great opportunity that this agreement represents for the dissemination of Defence Culture among university students, future communication media professionals.  As well, General Coll has made reference to the ‘extraordinary quality’ of the Army communication team, ‘that does a magnificent job from which we will now mutually benefit’.  Also, the Chief of the Army Staff has made reference to other similar agreements maintained by the military Institution with other Spanish universities, as well as the fine relations existing between the Press and the Army.
