The Chief of Staff of the Army with the Spanish contingent in ADANA
The Chief of Staff of the Army (JEME), General of the Army Amador Enseñat y Berea, conducted an official visit to Turkey from January 12th to 17th. During the visit, he fulfilled a comprehensive agenda aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation in military and technological fields.
General Enseñat emphasized that this visit has served to demonstrate Spain's commitment to the Atlantic Alliance, manifested in this case through its bond with such an important strategic partner as Turkey. The visit also aimed to further strengthen relations with this country, explore new areas of cooperation, and, finally, visit the Spanish contingents deployed in Adana and Izmir.
The visit began in the capital, Ankara, where the Chief of Staff of the Army participated in a tribute to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at Anitkabir, the mausoleum dedicated to the founder of the Republic of Turkey and a symbol of its modernization.
Subsequently, General of the Army Enseñat held a meeting with the Commander of the Turkish Land Forces, General Selçuk Bayraktaroglu, during which they discussed shared defense and security challenges and identified areas of mutual interest.
In this context, the Chief of Staff of the Army visited facilities of leading companies in electronics, electro-optics, land vehicles, defense technology, missiles, and rockets, as well as the Turkish Army's Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Brigade.
The Chief of Staff of the Army then traveled to Incirlik Air Base, east of Adana, where he visited the Spanish contingent deployed there as part of NATO’s Tailored Assurance Measures for Turkey. Spain has maintained a Patriot Unit at the base since January 2015, formed with units from the Air Defense Artillery Command.
General of the Army Enseñat continued his trip to Izmir, where he met with NATO Allied Land Command (LANDCOM) Deputy Commander, General Jez Bennett. Together, they discussed Spain's contributions to land operations and the country’s future commitments. During his visit to Izmir, the Chief of Staff of the Army also took the opportunity to meet with General Zacarías Hernández and the Spanish contingent deployed there.
As the final part of the visit in Izmir, the Chief of Staff of the Army was received by the Commander of the Aegean Army, General of the Army Irfan Özsert, at his Headquarters, where they held a working meeting to explore future collaboration opportunities.
