The "San Gregorio" Training Center (Zaragoza) served as the setting for the "Integration and Evaluation Exercise" (EINTEVAL), conducted from October 20th to 31st, where the Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) XVI contingent was evaluated and certified. This exercise marked the conclusion of the contingent's operational training in preparation for its upcoming deployment to Latvia, with the primary mission of deterring and defending Europe’s eastern flank.
Approximately 550 soldiers from around thirty units make up this contingent. The main units include: the "La Reina" Infantry Regiment No. 2, the "Córdoba" Armored Regiment No. 10, the Sapper Battalion X, the Field Artillery Regiment No. 11, the Electronic Warfare Regiment No. 31, and the Logistic Support Group No. 21. Additionally, more than 50 armored vehicles and 60 wheeled platforms were employed.
The purpose of the exercise was to integrate, evaluate, and certify the eFP XVI contingent and to increase the level of training and readiness of its units, enhancing their ability to conduct combined-arms operations. It also aimed to improve the preparedness of command personnel through the planning and execution of tactical operations and to refine both general and position-specific individual training. Finally, this exercise sought to foster unit cohesion through daily work, close interaction, and mutual understanding.
The EINTEVAL was conducted under the direction of an exercise control cell from the "La Reina" Infantry Regiment No. 2 and consisted of several phases. Initially, force projection and deployment took place, followed by sub-phase Alpha, during which unit integration was conducted. This phase included combined tactical exercises with live fire and training at the section and company levels.
Next, in the evaluation sub-phase, a 48-hour tactical scenario was conducted to test the capabilities of the contingent and the interoperability of procedures, functioning as an integrated combat system. In this sub-phase, the primary audience was the transferred force, consisting of a mechanized tactical subgroup that combines "Pizarro" infantry fighting vehicles and "Leopard" battle tanks, an Engineers unit, and a Field Artillery battery.
Finally, in the withdrawal sub-phase, the units returned to their home bases. Having been evaluated and certified, the eFP XVI contingent is now ready to deploy on the NATO mission in Latvia and fulfill any assigned tasks.
