Preparation for participation in the exercise

The "Guzmán el Bueno" X Brigade participated with two OCT teams (observers and controllers) in Exercise "Silver Arrow," conducted from September 17th to 25th at the Adazi Military Base (Latvia), as part of the Latvian Army's "Namejs 2024" exercise, which began on September 3rd and ends on October 8th.

The two teams from the X Brigade were composed of military personnel from the 10th Armored Regiment "Córdoba," the 2nd Infantry Regiment "La Reina," the X Artillery Group, and the X Engineer Battalion, that will soon deploy to Latvia as part of the NATO eFP XVI (Enhanced Forward Presence) contingent.

The military personnel participated in the maneuvers alongside members of the 62nd Infantry Regiment "Arapiles," the 11th and 12th Engineer Specialty Regiments, and the 63rd Field Rocket Artillery Regiment.

The objective of Exercise "Silver Arrow" was to conduct the evaluation and certification of the NATO Multinational Battle Group deployed in Adazi as a combat-ready unit, in which the majority of the Spanish contingent is integrated.

The tasks of the X Brigade personnel were primarily twofold: to oversee the execution of combat procedures by the Mechanized Tactical Subgroup and the Spanish Engineer Unit, both under the tactical command of the Canada-led Battle Group, and to act as referees in engagements with the opposing force. All of this was done to later provide the evaluated units with a report on areas to improve and maintain, as well as to contribute data for the overall evaluation.

Exercise "Silver Arrow" involves personnel from all the nations contributing forces to the Battle Group: Canada, as the framework nation, Italy, Poland, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Spain, which is currently deploying the eFP XV contingent made up of units from the "Extremadura" XI Brigade.
